‘Oh what a night!’ we had at the Australian Water Associations night of nights when the entire Viridis team fancied up for the 2018 QLD Gala Dinner and Awards Night on Friday 7 September.
After counting down the weeks, we all arrived at the Hilton Brisbane’s Grand Ballroom with great excitement to share in a wonderful evening as a team, while we celebrated and paid homage to the many fantastic achievements the Queensland Water Industry has seen over the past year.
With the theme of night being ‘Diversity in the Workplace’, it was well fitting for the role of MC to be assigned to non-other, than Doctor Kirstin Ferguson. As a widely recognised and respected advocate, author and campaigner for ‘Women in Leadership’, who better to host a night celebrating the accomplishments and achievements of the many people from all walks of life, who make up our industry.
Atop each table were stunning centrepieces displaying different aspects of diversity to consider within our respective workplaces. Be it, age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, family dynamic or socio-economic background; a diverse work culture presents so many benefits and, guided by Dr Ferguson, the theme and table centrepieces were fantastic and greatly beneficial conversation starters!
As the night progressed and Pheonix Duo, our band for the evening crooned on, we attacked the dessert smorgasbord with gusto. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet with old friends and colleagues while also striking up conversations over a delicious slice of Tiramisu, with industry contacts who will undoubtably become new friends.
We would like to extend our congratulations to all of the very worthy recipients of the Queensland awards, our thanks to our guests for the evening, Natasha Georgius of Logan City Council and Steven Kenway of the University of Queensland for their delightful company, and also to our fabulous Director, James Howey for treating our very special team to a memorable night of celebration.
